Halil İbrahim Canter graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, English Department in 1996. He completed his residency in the Department of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at the same university in 2003, and his Ph.D. in Advanced Plastic Surgery in 2008.

To date, he has published more than seventy articles in leading international medical journals, and serves as a reviewer for more than ten journals, including Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Burns, International Journal of Dermatology, and Lasers in Medical Science. He is also on the editorial board of The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal.
With his studies, he has won first place awards four times and one second place award at the national congress of the Turkish Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. In 2017, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons awarded him the "Best Research Publication" award among the 2016 publications. He has obtained a patent for a device he defined for distraction osteogenesis.
