Op. Dr. Defne Erkara was born in January 1975 in Erenköy, Istanbul. She completed her primary education at Erenköy Primary School between 1980 and 1985, during which time, like all other students, she spent a period mainly focused on play. However, when she started secondary school at Private Doğuş College in 1985, she became one of the most successful students; she also completed her high school education at the same school and graduated with honors in 1992.
